Understanding Explanations of Health Care Benefits

This page covers what an Explanation of Health Care Benefits (EOB) statement is and why you may receive one.

What's an EOB?

You will receive a Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your health insurance company if you use your health insurance during a visit to a health care provider.

The EOB is not a bill.  No action is required from you when you receive an EOB.

The EOB provides detailed information about the interaction with that health care provider, including the care you received, the dollar amount covered by your health plan, and the amount you owe the health care provider.

How does it work?

Your doctor will bill you separately for the amount you owe.  Once you receive your bill, you can use your Further debit card to pay your provider. If you choose to pay the bill from a checking account, you can submit a request for reimbursement online or by submitting a paper application.

However, if you’re part of a plan that gives you the pay-the-provider option, the bill will be paid directly from the funds in your account.  See Automated claim payments with crossover - pay-the-provider for more information.

Claim activity is maintained by Further and can be viewed anytime in online at www.hellofurther.com.
